Responsibilities
- Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
- Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
- Supervise other workers
- Estimate costs and materials
- Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments
- Repair, resurface and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete structures
- Examine products for defects to ensure adherence to quality standards
- Ensure health and safety regulations are followed
- Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work
- Provide technical and professional advice
- Perform pre-production runs of binding or finishing jobs to verify output and to ensure that product specifications are met
- Repair or replace damaged windows, windshields and sunroofs
- Make adjustments necessary to ensure the smooth running of processes
- Examine and verify the accuracy of work
- Coordinate construction activities to ensure compliance with established building specifications
